Director of Strategic Development

Foreign Policy (FP) is recruiting a Director of Strategic Development to help build its portfolio of global clients, including high-profile foreign governments, multi-lateral organizations, NGOs and international corporations.

FP is the leading news and insight service for foreign affairs professionals globally. We explain Washington to the world and the world to Americans—by covering big trends in not only policy & politics and security & defense but also climate change, energy, technology, health, finance, culture and more.
The Director of Strategic Development will play a key role in developing the next generation of communications solutions and accelerating the company’s revenue growth.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Research global policy and business trends to translate them into sales opportunities
  • Identify, cultivate and nurture relationships with industry leaders as current and prospective clients
  • Develop custom programs across digital and print media, audio, sponsored research and custom events, tailored to specific client challenges that also meet FP’s audience needs
  • Write compelling proposals, negotiate partnership agreements and close deals
  • Work with other FP teams including events, audio, research and editorial to ensure world class client and audience success

Requirements

  • Experience in selling custom events, sponsored research and/or digital media
  • A proven track record of successfully meeting ambitious sales targets
  • Experience in a strategic and consultative sales process
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, and comfort selling to C-level executives and senior government officials
  • A background in or passion for international relations
  • Strong social network marketing skills helpful
  • Experience using Salesforce.com and email marketing tools a plus
